Meta’s Oversight Board Expands To Include Threads

Meta’s Oversight Board has just announced an expansion plan to include Threads in its purview.

The announcement was recently made about how Threads users would be given the chance to make appeals against Facebook’s parent firm’s decisions having to do with moderating content online. This would provide this independent group the chance to impact policies for the new app that comes under Meta’s ownership.

It’s a serious expansion for Meta’s Oversight Board. The latter has now weighed up against any issues linked to Facebook and Instagram’s content published online. This change would give users the chance to have greater accountability that was independent, early on.

As per statements mentioned by the Oversight Board, users making appeals across Threads are going to see it work very much like how it is on Meta’s other two apps, Instagram and Facebook.

After exhausting the whole internal system on Meta, they can see a small glimmer of hope through reviews requested by Meta’s Oversight Board.

Under such rules created during the board’s formation, Meta would now be forced to make the board’s decisions come into effect with particular posts. But at the same time, it should not feel pressured or obligated to stick to such policy recommendations.

Including content moderation of Threads under its belt, such decisions are clear proof of how there’s a growing influence of the platform that works very much like Twitter, despite being rolled out last year in the summer.

So far, Mark Zuckerberg’s platform has a user base featuring close to 130 million users and Zuckerberg speculated some more ambitious targets where it might just go up to one billion soon. But only time can tell how true his prediction proves to be.

When we take a closer look into this matter, Threads has similar rules to Instagram. Meta has similarly encountered such pushback from a wide number of users working over the policies that include content recommendations.

For now, we’re seeing Threads bar certain terms linked to the COVID-19 pandemic and issues of that kind which it deemed to be sensitive. As one would expect, it raised eyebrows.

It similarly shocked some critics when it delineated how accounts promoting political content would no longer be recommended to users on the feed. The only way that would be possible is if the users themselves opted into making such kinds of suggestions.

When you look at things more officially, Threads has rules quite similar to Instagram. However, Meta says it continues to face a lot of pushback from plenty of users in regards to its policies outlined for content recommendations.

Whether or not the board weighs in on such decisions, only time can tell. It’s going to take some time before we see users on Threads witness any kind of changes due to recommendations made by the board.

Meta’s Oversight Board only attains a small figure of appeals generated by users. It might take a few weeks or even months for such groups to produce a decision and it may take even more months for the tech giant to make amendments to any regulations that it already has in place, thanks to the guidance being taken on.

Remember, Meta’s Oversight Board can expedite the whole process in certain cases so gone are the days when one would expect the whole endeavor to take a really long time before coming into play.

For now, we think the Oversight Board of Meta has its hands full because an app like Threads is certainly not the simplest to handle, especially in terms of content regulation.

Threads users now have the opportunity to appeal Meta's content moderation decisions through the Oversight Board.

Is Google Sunsetting Gmail In 2024? New Hoax Leaves Users Confused

Rumors are going strong on social media about Google’s journey with Gmail coming to an end. And that too as early as this year.

If you paid witness to such a shocking hoax that’s fast spreading online too then we can confirm that it’s not true by any means. The Android maker is addressing the need for users to calm down after the hoax emphasizing the company’s goodbye to Gmail.

Many versions of this hoax can be found online on the Twitter (X) app. But Google has rest assured everyone to take it easy and that it’s not going anywhere. However, a clause also mentions how users would now be defaulted to new views on Gmail. So other than those cases where you had specifically requested for the basic HTML version, nothing is going to change.
The search engine giant just made updates to its respective support page too instead of this hoax and how it will now change to Standard display after the issuance of a deadline date.

Reports by users on tech outlet Hacker News mentioned how they got emails from the company that signaled the feature was now coming to a close and that obviously created a state of panic across the board.

Hoax about Gmail's demise debunked by Google, emphasizing continuity while introducing default views and updates.
Screenshots: DIW - Gmail web

Google says it wants to make it very clear about where its Gmail stands right now to avoid last-minute panic. Users can expect to see their mobile and desktop web Gmail Basic HTML views getting disabled from the start of January this year. The basic HTML views on display right now are from old variants of Gmail that had been replaced by modern versions close to a decade ago. They don’t entail complete Gmail features.

Today, when users make the effort to access HTML variants, the company rolls out messages stating how the variant is designed for slower connectivity and those having legacy browsers. Therefore, it’s now asking users to confirm whether or not they want to make use of standard variants or not.
The latest HTML variant has a few new features like chat, grammar checks, shortcuts for the keyboard, and any kind of rich formatting tools. But we can see how it will serve as something super useful in those scenarios where you happen to be in an area with low connections.

The same would be the case if users wish to look at emails without having more bells and whistles attached. For now, it’s still not clear if Google wishes to add a new variant for situations where there is low connectivity.

For the time being, the search engine giant is focusing more on the likes of adding AI-based technology to a wide array of its offerings. And Gmail seems to be a part of that list. In the past month, we saw the company roll out Duet AI features to assist users in generating emails when in a rush.
Meanwhile, last week, we saw it giving Bard the chance to incorporate several Google accounts so queries can be asked regarding email history.

Meta Considers Revisiting Its Hate Speech Policy After Massive Concern Over ‘Zionist’ Terminology

Tech giant Meta is under pressure after greater concern grew surrounding its respective hate speech policy.

Many users were wary about the terminology linked to zionists and how it was being used for posts linked to the Arab and Jewish communities.

The policy currently enables the use of the term in a political discourse. Still, it was removed when it had to do with Jews or Israelis directly, especially when it was in the context of a violent or dehumanizing manner. This was just confirmed through an email generated by a Meta rep who mentioned that it planned to invite others to discuss the matter in the future, as first spotted by TheIntercept.

Meanwhile, the email further mentioned how the firm considered reviewing this in context to posts and concerns of users who were the real stakeholders on this front.

This means we might soon be witnessing a possible change in policy while advocacy groups (including MPower Change and 7amleh) were seen questioning how these policies were getting enforced, and that entails whether the posts were made by the platform’s algorithm or humans.

For a while now, we’ve seen Meta be blasted for rolling out measures that were unfair as all pro-Palestinian content was getting censored as mentioned by one Meta rep.
The groups rolled out questions regarding such policies and how they would get enforced for detection and censoring of this kind of language.

The AI-based systems are designed to flag all posts deemed problematic. Right now, there’s no kind of human review and such firms were the ones who happened to be in attendance during the meeting taking place with tech giant Meta.

Right before that meeting took center stage, a whopping 73 different firms generated a letter to the company that added how extensions generated to the policy could mischaracterize chats regarding zionists. They would treat that as proxies and would encourage acts linked to Israel as well as antisemitism.
The move was designed to stop Palestinians from rolling out daily experiences from the world.

During the meeting, Meta shared examples of how plenty of posts would soon be removed and they included posts where zionists were dubbed rats.

Such kinds of decisions regarding content moderation would not include track records that were reliable and had to do with Palestinian protection and speech.

In this letter, the firms expressed serious concern about the lack of replies to the rise in censorship of content generated in favor of Palestinians. This has been at an all-time high for quite some time now.

The proposal is ineffective in combatting measures like antisemitism. It ignores issues fueled by the likes of Palestinian oppression during a time when so many courts and experts in the field of human rights would accept that something as severe as genocide is taking place in the Palestinian region.

“There is a real danger that such policy revisions would stifle free expression of voices speaking out against the Israeli government’s systematic violations of Palestinian rights, and its ongoing onslaught in Gaza, where a real and imminent risk of genocide looms large.”, expressed Alia Al Ghussain, Researcher and Advisor on Artificial Intelligence and Human Rights at Amnesty Tech.

Meta's policy allows the term "Zionists" in political discourse but removes it when linked to Jews or Israelis in a violent context.

Meta Lays Down New Rules For Greater AI Transparency Surrounding Its Apps

Tech giant Meta is on the rise to roll out a greater sense of transparency surrounding its platforms.

Facebook’s parent firm says it hopes to implement a greater number of rules that give rise to more transparency as we speak while others would be linked to detecting AI usage through technical measures.

We agree that it won’t always be possible as there are plenty of options up for grabs and a lot of options available today for subverting digital watermarks can be done with ease.
But tech giant Meta says it hopes to generate the latest industry standards on this front that has to do with AI detection. Facebook’s parent firm hopes to collaborate with a series of other providers in the industry to ensure AI transparency and create the right working rules that highlight such ordeals taking place online.

Tech giant Meta says it’s on the rise to creating several tools that can identify which markers are invisible and which are not.

This means labeling pictures from all kinds of platforms like Google, Shutterstock, Adobe, Microsoft, and even Midjourney. All the measures used for AI detection will allow Meta and a host of other apps to generate labels on content made through generative AI so everyone is well-informed about what they’re seeing or reading online.

This would help in limiting misinformation spread online that comes due to AI and while there are limitations regarding this capacity across the AI sector, it cannot be ignored.

The news comes at a time when we’re seeing some of the world’s top firms generate labels of images made through AI and those curated through humans so people are well aware of what’s taking place.

It’s a key concern linked to AI development and has to do with experts generating a lot of concerns on this front for years. New generative AI tools like ChatGPT are certainly a major innovation when it comes to technical advancements. That is why a more cautious approach needs to take center stage so any harm and risks to the general public regarding its misuse must be made aware before it’s too late.

As it is, we’ve been seeing so many tools cause problems in various contexts like the elections. But with greater transparency and image labeling, Meta feels the addition of such ordeals can ensure AI is detectable easier than before.

There are plenty of safeguards being generated on this front and as search engine giant Google confirms, the need for such tools to be deployed at an earlier stage than before is the need of the moment.

Remember, more technical shifts and greater regulation can set the stage for greater management than before. It might take a few years but with the right tools in place, the tech world can overcome the issues and loopholes that many of us fear taking place right now.

WhatsApp Reinforces Security and Privacy with Locked Chats on Web and Automated Account Reports

Whatsapp is coming up with a new feature that will enable the user to lock their chats on WhatsApp web, as spotted by WBI.

Users have been demanding locked chats on WhatsApp web and now Meta's messaging platform has already started working on it. The locked chats will have a separate tab for them that will greatly protect the user’s privacy. Anything about tab placement and its design is too soon to discuss as WhatsApp hasn’t said (officially) anything about it. What some experts are anticipating is that the tab is likely to have a code that will help the user to hide their private chats.

Keep in mind that a lock for chats on WhatsApp is already available on its iOS and Android. There are a lot of advantages to locking your chats on WhatsApp in terms of privacy and security. The biggest advantage of locking the chats on WhatsApp web will be when the user will be working among other people and wants to protect their privacy. WhatsApp is working hard to add new features on the app and on Web WhatsApp so users can easily use it without worrying about their privacy and security.

This new feature shows that WhatsApp wants users to feel secure while chatting with people on their platform.

On the other hand, WhatsApp is also working on automating account reports in an upcoming update. The beta version for Android 2.24.3.30 reveals a feature that will generate monthly reports for user accounts and channels automatically. This promises users a hassle-free way to stay informed about their account activities without manual intervention, enhancing convenience and efficiency. The development aims to streamline the process initiated in 2018, allowing users to effortlessly track changes in their account information over time. Further details on this feature will be shared as the update progresses.

Parents Aren't Using Snapchat's Supervision Controls, Here's Why That's a Problem

Platforms like Snapchat, Discord, TikTok and X are all quite popular with teenagers, and that makes them rather risky since adults can chat with minors unsupervised. As a result of the fact that this is the case, these companies have introduced supervision controls that parents can use to keep an eye on who their children are talking to and when, but in spite of the fact that this is the case, most of the parents of users aren’t really taking advantage of these protective measures.

With all of that having been said and now out of the way, it is important to note that Evan Spiegel, the CEO of Snap, spoke before a Senate Judiciary Committee today. He stated that around 20 million teenagers from the US are using Snapchat, but just 200,000 parents have taken advantage of the Family Center controls that are on offer.

These controls were introduced because of the fact that this is the sort of thing that could potentially end up protecting minors from coming to harm. They were the result of pressure from outside groups to protect their minor users, but it turns out that not parents are not using them and that could make the apps more dangerous fro teens than might have been the case otherwise.

Spiegel spoke alongside the CEOs of Meta, X, Discord, and TikTok, and he was the only one to provide specific numbers. Mark Zuckerberg stated that he couldn’t provide any precise numbers at this current point in time, but that his company was working hard to raise awareness for supervision tools. Linda Yaccarino, the recently instated CEO of X, said that just 1% of its 90 million US users were underage, but the company is figuring out how to monitor them.

  • As for TikTok, its CEO Shou Zi Chew said that he couldn’t give specific figures either, but pointed out that TikTok was among the first social media platforms that tried to give parents these controls. It will be interesting to see where things go from here on out, since this is perhaps the most important thing that social media platforms need to focus on.

Creators Upset Over TikTok's AI-Generated Search Term Quirks

TikTok is using artificial intelligence to suggest search terms on its videos. This is part of its plan to make the app a popular place for searches. The AI looks at things like what users comment and what they search for after watching a video. This is how it decides what search terms to suggest.

But this feature has led to some strange results. Creators and viewers have noticed that TikTok sometimes suggests search terms that don't match the video. These terms can be random or even give the wrong idea about the video's content.

For instance, in one funny video by Christian Vierling, TikTok suggested the unrelated term "christian vierling rehab". This left some users puzzled and even led to videos highlighting the issue.

TikTok says it doesn't have people choosing these search terms. It's all done by AI based on what's popular and what people are talking about in the video. They try to avoid harmful suggestions, like bullying, as highlighted in their platform guidelines section. If a bad search suggestion appears, users can report it. Creators can also block certain words in their comments, which helps prevent those words from becoming search suggestions.

Even with these efforts, influencers have said that the system can still create false or sensational search terms. Creator Joel Bervell pointed out that creators don't have control over the suggested search terms and often don't know what's being suggested unless they check from another account.

Meta’s Instagram Is Full Of Fake Profiles That Are Catfishing Users But The Company Could Care Less

Seeing scammers and imposters arise on social media is now a norm in the online world.

But you’d expect tech giants like Meta to do more to help safeguard its users online by getting rid of fake profiles. However, the reality seems to be far from that as many noticed the number of fake profiles surging across the Instagram app.

In the past year, we’ve seen the issue go from bad to worse and the app’s parent firm is really falling behind in terms of finding a solution to the matter, despite there being many signs that a certain profile is making use of another’s identity or image.
An investigation was also carried out by tech media outlet Bleeping Computer on this front and they noticed how a large number of reports were filed against such scam accounts featuring fake IDs and they were impersonating internet personalities or other public figures but ended up getting dismissed by the admin. Clearly, it’s a huge issue and no appeal made a difference, not to mention how the profiles continue to function on the app as we speak.

Conceptual image created with AIgen

After seeing all of this, it would not be wrong to mention that Instagram has transformed into a giant safe haven where scammers are working at large. People are interacting with others based on what they appear like on the outside or what their profile says, only to find out later on that it’s all a scam and nothing is real.

their profile says, only to find out later on that it’s all a scam and nothing is real.

Authenticity on social media is rare as it is and now that fake profiles are going unnoticed by Meta’s Instagram we’re seeing a major issue arise here. To pretend like you are someone other than your true identity is concerning and a major sign of catfishing. Anyone can produce two identities for several reasons. One of the main ones is to separate their real or personal endeavors from their professional world. But you need to be honest at least, right?

A growing number of users are speaking about how they keep on generating complaints on this front and seeing Meta dismiss them and leave those fake ID accounts as it is has them wondering what’s going on and if any safeguards were really in place. All they give as a part of the justification is linked to how they are following Community Guidelines and using both human and tech for reviewing purposes. And yes, no appeals work either so what is a person supposed to do, right?

When leading media outlets ask Meta to shed light on what’s going on, they are yet to hear back from any of the company’s reps. And that again is another red flag worth a mention.

Could this be the latest ploy from the tech giant in terms of selling blue ticks?

We don’t think such acts are a mere coincidence. They are becoming far too normal on the platform and something needs to be done before it’s too late.

Plenty of imposters seem to be targeting real profiles of leading public figures, influencers, law enforcement officers, and creators involved in producing adult content. They then start following the followers located on the actual account. And their hope is to attain followers back to ensure they are getting the tag of being authentic. They then block the profile that they are copying and this ensures no contact is made with the real user in question.

Those who are suffering are the real ones who fear their identities are being used for catfishing purposes and they cannot do anything about it because Meta takes on a silent stance. So what could the reason be?

Well, the news is that Meta is forcing users to purchase blue ticks to try and ensure they attain greater protection perhaps they wish to increase their user numbers by not labeling these kinds of content as spam or a fake profile.

Today, the subscription is priced between $12 to $15 and it’s not cheap to get Meta Verified, not to mention an added business for the company with these staggering monthly earnings.

Meta's Facebook and Instagram Are the Most Data Hungry Apps According to This Study

Surfshark recently did a deep dive into the top 100 most popular apps on the App Store, and they found that 20% of the data they are collecting is for tracking purposes with all things having been considered and taken into account. These apps were ranked based on 32 data points that they are currently in the process of collecting, all of which are defined by Apple’s privacy policy.

Facebook and Instagram were found to be the least privacy conscious apps of all. They collect all 32 data points, all of which are tied to the identity of the user in question, and 7 of which are used specifically for tracking purposes. These include data points such as names, home addresses as well as phone numbers, which seems to suggest that these apps offer far less privacy than users would ideally prefer.
With all of that having been said and now out of the way, it is important to note that X, formerly known as Twitter, was also a major offender in this regard. It collected fewer data points than Facebook and Instagram, or 22 to be precise, but in spite of the fact that this is the case, it used 11 of them to track users.

On the other end of the spectrum, Signal was found to be the most privacy conscious app of all, at least in terms of social media and instant messaging. It collects a single data point, namely the user’s phone number, and it doesn’t link it to the identity of the user nor does it utilize it for any tracking purposes whatsoever on third party platforms.

Interestingly, WhatsApp was also surprisingly privacy conscious despite coming under the Meta umbrella just like Facebook and Instagram. It didn’t use any of its collected data for tracking, making it, Signal and Telegram the only three apps to avoid this practice.
Users need to be educated about which apps are tracking them, otherwise they might not know when their privacy at risk. This study shows that some apps are continuing to find a way to track users despite Apple’s privacy policy.

Enter the New Era of Mobile AI With Samsung Galaxy S24 Series

Samsung Electronics today unveiled the Galaxy S24 Ultra, Galaxy S24+ and Galaxy S24, unleashing new mobile experiences with Galaxy AI.1 Galaxy S series leads the way into a new era that will forever change how mobile devices empower users. AI amplifies nearly every experience on Galaxy S24 series, from enabling barrier-free communication with intelligent text and call translations, to maximizing creative freedom with Galaxy’s ProVisual Engine, to setting a new standard for search that will change how Galaxy users discover the world around them.

“The Galaxy S24 series transforms our connection with the world and ignites the next decade of mobile innovation,” said TM Roh, President and Head of Mobile eXperience (MX) Business at Samsung Electronics. “Galaxy AI is built on our innovation heritage and deep understanding of how people use their phones. We’re excited to see how our users around the world empower their everyday lives with Galaxy AI to open up new possibilities.”

Samsung Galaxy S24 series: Availability and price

Let's start with what everyone wants to know: when can you buy one of these things? Samsung's Galaxy S24 lineup went up for preorder right after their announcement on stage in San Jose on January 17th, 2024, and for the most part, the prices are unchanged for 2024. The Galaxy S24 starts at $800, while the Galaxy S24+ starts at $1,000. As usual, preordering from Samsung's web store gets you a free storage upgrade from now until January 31st, when the phones actually find their way onto shelves at your local carrier.

However, the Galaxy S24 Ultra is a different story. Although it's available for preorder now — and will launch on the same January 31st date — you'll be paying more for this year's S Pen-equipped smartphone than you would've one year ago. The Galaxy S24 Ultra starts at $1,300 in the US, and that's a mighty big asking price for a non-foldable smartphone. Prices only go up as you add in more storage — and remember, there's no microSD card slot for expansion, so you'll need to buy the right allotment at checkout.

Make Everyday Experiences Epic

Galaxy AI introduces meaningful intelligence aimed at enhancing every part of life, especially the phone’s most fundamental role: communication. When you need to defy language barriers, Galaxy S24 makes it easier than ever. Chat with another student or colleague from abroad. Book a reservation while on vacation in another country. It’s all possible with Live Translate,2 two-way, real-time voice and text translations of phone calls within the native app. No third-party apps are required, and on-device AI keeps conversations completely private.

With Interpreter, live conversations can be instantly translated on a split-screen view so people standing opposite each other can read a text transcription of what the other person has said. It even works without cellular data or Wi-Fi.

For messages and other apps, Chat Assist can help perfect conversational tones to ensure communication sounds as it was intended: like a polite message to a coworker or a short and catchy phrase for a social media caption.3 AI built into Samsung Keyboard can also translate messages in real time in 13 languages.4 In the car, Android Auto5 will automatically summarize incoming messages and suggest relevant replies and actions, like sending someone your ETA, so you can stay connected while staying focused on the road.

Organization also gets a big boost with Note Assist6in Samsung Notes, featuring AI-generated summaries, template creation that streamlines notes with pre-made formats and cover creation to make notes easy to spot with a brief preview. For voice recordings, when there are multiple speakers, Transcript Assist7 uses AI and Speech-to-Text technology to transcribe, summarize and even translate recordings.

Communication isn’t the only way Galaxy S24 series takes the fundamental benefits of the phone into the future. Online search has transformed nearly every aspect of life. Galaxy S24 marks a milestone in the history of search as the first phone to debut intuitive, gesture-driven Circle to Search8 with Google. To give Galaxy users an incredible new tool, Galaxy turned to the worldwide leader of search, Google, and opened up new forms of discovery with a simple gesture. With a long press on the home button, users can circle, highlight, scribble on or tap anything on Galaxy S24’s screen to see helpful, high-quality search results. Seeing a beautiful landmark in the background of a friend’s social media post or a surprising fun fact on YouTube Shorts can quickly become an accurate search to learn more – without having to leave that app. And depending on a user‘s location, for certain searches, generative AI-powered overviews can provide helpful information and context pulled together from across the web, and users can ask more complex and nuanced questions. It’s that easy. And that epic.

Unleash Creativity to Discover the World in New Ways

Galaxy S24 series’ ProVisual Engine9 is a comprehensive suite of AI-powered tools that transforms image capturing abilities and maximizes creative freedom every step of the way, from setting up a shot all the way to sharing it on social. Gone are shaky, pixelated images taken from far away. Galaxy S24 Ultra’s Quad Tele System, with new 5x optical zoom lens, works with the 50MP sensor to enable optical-quality performance at zoom levels from 2x, 3x, 5x to 10x10 magnification thanks to Adaptive Pixel Sensor. Images also show crystal clear results at 100x with enhanced digital zoom.

With upgraded Nightography capabilities, photos and videos shot on Galaxy S24 Space Zoom are brilliant in any condition, even when zoomed in. Capture more light in dim conditions with Galaxy S24 Ultra’s larger pixel size, now 1.4 μm, which is 60% bigger11 compared to the previous model. Blur is reduced on Galaxy S24 Ultra with wider optical image stabilizer (OIS) angles and enhanced hand-shake compensation. When recording videos, both front and rear cameras are equipped with Dedicated ISP Block for noise reduction, and Galaxy S24 analyzes gyro information to distinguish between the filmer’s movement and the subject’s. This allows for more effective noise removal and clear videos in the dark, even from far away.

Galaxy’s Most Intelligent Experience Ever, Powered by Premium Performance

As AI becomes a more prominent part of everyday life, performance power must excel to meet the demands. Gaming. Heavy-duty video recording and editing. Jumping between five apps to plan a trip. Whatever the task, Galaxy S24 provides an incredible experience thanks to enhancements in its chipset,15 display and more. Every Galaxy S24 Ultra is equipped with Snapdragon® 8 Gen 3 Mobile Platform for Galaxy.16 Optimized especially for Galaxy users, this chipset delivers remarkable NPU improvement for incredibly efficient AI processing. In all three Galaxy S24 models, 1-120 Hz adaptive refresh rates also improve performance efficiency.

Galaxy gaming is more powerful thanks to hardware and software improvements. Ray tracing enables lifelike visuals with superior shadow and reflection effect. And through collaboration with industry-leading gaming partners, Galaxy S24 let users enjoy more optimized popular global mobile games.

Visuals are more vibrant and captivating on the brightest Galaxy display ever.18 Galaxy S24 reaches 2,600nit peak brightness and delivers improved outdoor visibility with Vision Booster.

On the display, Corning® Gorilla® Armor19 on the Galaxy S24 Ultra is optically enhanced and demonstrates superior durability against damage caused by everyday scratches. It delivers dramatically reduced reflection by up to 75% in a wide range of lighting conditions, ensuring a smooth, comfortable viewing experience.

Across the Galaxy S24 series, design enhancements with slimmer and even bezels make it easier to immerse in any viewing experience and enable larger screen sizes on Galaxy S24+’s 6.7-inch and Galaxy S24’s 6.2-inch displays within nearly the same size specifications.20 Galaxy S24 Ultra has a 6.8-inch flatter display, optimized not just for viewing but also for productivity. Plus, Galaxy S24+ now supports the same level of QHD+ found on Galaxy S24 Ultra.

Advanced Security and Privacy Empowers User Choice and Trust

Secured by Samsung Knox, Galaxy’s defense-grade, multi-layer security platform, Galaxy S24 safeguards critical information and protects against vulnerabilities with end-to-end secure hardware, real-time threat detection and collaborative protection.

Samsung’s long-standing commitment to provide users choice and control over their device continues in the era of AI. Galaxy S24 users have full controllability over how much they allow their data to enhance AI experiences, through Advanced Intelligence settings which can disable online processing of data for AI features.21

The Knox Matrix22 vision of a secure, connected and password-less future is also advanced with passkeys. Passkeys enable convenient and secure access to a users’ registered websites and apps across all their trusted devices through digital credentials, helping protect against phishing attacks. Enhanced Data Protection offers end-to-end encryption when users backup, sync or restore their data with Samsung Cloud, allowing Galaxy S24 users to connect to other devices while staying synchronized and secure. This ensures the data can only be encrypted or decrypted on a user’s devices, meaning nobody can see it but the user, even if a server is compromised or account details are stolen. And if access to a trusted device is lost, a recovery code can help prevent loss of data. Galaxy S24 is also protected with Samsung’s expansive list of innovative security and privacy features including Knox Vault, Security & Privacy Dashboard, Auto Blocker, Secure Wi-Fi, Private Share, Maintenance Mode and more.

The Next Phase of Samsung’s Environmental Journey

Establishing a new category of mobile experiences also means reimagining how Galaxy technology is designed and packaged to do more with less for people and the planet. Galaxy S24 continues to scale the variety of recycled materials in Galaxy devices by applying recycled plastics, glass and aluminum to internal and external components.23 It also takes these efforts one step further. For the first time, Galaxy S24 features components made with recycled cobalt and rare earth elements.24 In Galaxy S24 Ultra, a minimum of 50% recycled cobalt was used in the battery,25 and 100% recycled rare earth elements were incorporated into the speakers.26

Galaxy S24 is also the first Galaxy S series to be designed with recycled steel and Thermoplastic Polyurethane (TPU). Galaxy S24 Ultra features a minimum of 40% recycled steel in the speakers,27 and it includes a minimum of 10% pre-consumer recycled TPU in the side and volume keys. Additionally, every Galaxy S24 comes in a packaging box made from 100% recycled paper material.

The latest flagship continues Samsung’s commitment to extending the product lifecycle, offering seven generations of OS upgrades and seven years of security updates to help users reliably experience the optimized performance of their Galaxy devices for even longer.28 Lastly, Galaxy S24 is UL ECOLOGO® certified,29 and its carbon footprint has been measured and verified by The Carbon Trust.30

Galaxy S24 is a demonstration of progress against Samsung MX’s environmental roadmap. Samsung remains steadfast in delivering on its set of goals to be achieved by the end of 2025. 31 At the end of 2022, Samsung achieved the first of these goals by incorporating recycled materials in all mobile products, from Galaxy smartphones and tablets to PCs and wearables. Today, the company is setting a new recycled material goal. By 2030, Samsung will incorporate at least one recycled material in every module32 of every mobile product.

Precision Technology and Elegance in Every Detail

Galaxy S24 Ultra is the first-ever Galaxy phone to feature a titanium frame,33 enhancing device durability and longevity.
